Day 4
Another big day loomed as we headed south of Perugia to Cantina Cenci. Owner Giovanni has to be met to be believed! Overflowing with enthusiasm, he charged around his organic vineyards explaining everything to the eager crowd. Maybe it was my imagination but he seemed to be surrounded by the ladies of the group at all times – such was his charm. Inside the winery we experienced the legendary hospitality of Italy – cheeses, salumi, asparagus tart, borlotti beans, bread- breakfast was only half an hour ago and we still had lunch and dinner to come! Everyone manfully consumed huge quantities of wine and food – it was rude not to!
Groaning with food we departed to the delightful husband and wife team at Terre Margaritelli. Federico gave us a fabulous insight into the Torgiano story and Jennifer supplied us
with an extraordinary lunch – delicious salads, local ingredients and succulent meats on the BBQ. We lingered outside enjoying the amazing wines, food and gorgeous countryside.
And yet dinner was still to come! La Taverna – one of the top restaurants in Perugia delivered a super meal of spinach salad, tortelloni, truffle stuffed chicken and tiramisu.
Weight watchers – I enrol now!
