Umbria and Southern Tuscany Tour 3 – Part 1

Day 1

Great weather greeted us again in Perugia for the start of tour.

The Caffe di Perugia once again did us proud with a delightful dinner of risotto and the famous “Stinco” pork rib that is packed full of flavour.

To get things kicked off we tasted a range of wines: Orvieto Classico Superiore, Rubesco from Torgiano, a 100% Grecchetto, an amazing Merlot and a fascinating blend of Trebbiano, Grecchetto and Chardonnay. Umbria has a wonderful diversity of wine style that deserves a bigger audience.

Day 2

Umbria and Southern Tuscany Wine Tour 3 Tasting at DionigiUmbria and Southern Tuscany Wine Tour 3 Roberto at DionigiWith 30 in our group the logistics change a little bit and our first visit with Roberto at Dionigi showed how a small winery can rise to the challenge and create a scintillating visit and tasting – effortlessly creating an occasion where we tasted 12 different wines and used over 300 glasses! It was seamless as we enjoyed dry Grecchettos, contrasted 2003 and 2011 Rosso di Montefalco, sampled 2010 Rosso Riserva and then compared five different vintages from 2001 to 2007 of the famous Sagrantino di Montefalco. If that wasn’t enough we then moved on to Sagrantino Passito and Grecchetto Passito – utterly fabulous wines tasted with Gorgonzola and Pecorino .

Umbria and Southern Tuscany Wine Tour 3 Lunch at RainaLunch was cooked by the delightful Francesco Mariani at Cantina Raina. Four courses of delicious local produce and accompanied by his range of wines: Trebbiano Spoletino, Rosso di Montefalco, Sagrantino di Montefalco and his splendid Passito.
