Southern Tuscany Update

In contrast to the relatively under-developed wine tourism scene in Umbria, Southern Tuscany is a major destination on Italian wine routes.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino are the big ticket wines and there is a plethora of top estates to visit.  On our agenda are the family owned estates of Tenuta Valdipiatta where Miriam Caporali produces superb examples of Vino Nobile, and Poggio San Polo which produces top class Brunello.  We recently tasted wines from both these estates at Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies.  The Vino Nobile was beautifully balanced with sweet ripe fruit well integrated with vanilla oak, while the 2008 Brunello from Poggio showed delightful tertiary fruit characteristics, great elegance and depth.  IfUmbria-scenery you can’t wait till the tours, you can enjoy these now – they are in the shop!

The Tuscan countryside is magnificent, and our coach will need to wind its way through the classic rolling hills and picturesque villages.
