Priorat is an incredibly beautiful part of Catalonia about 100km south of Barcelona and is home to some stunning reds and utterly delicious whites which grow in the licorella slate soil on ancient non-terraced hillside vineyards known as ‘costers’.
A number of wine producers are bidding to have Priorat established as a UNESCO World Heritage site on the basis of its mountainous, Mediterranean agricultural and cultural landscape. See article in Decanter.

On my tour to Catalonia this year (23-27 September) we spend a day in this beautiful area and see at first hand the incredibly steep slopes that produce such low-yielding vines.
Beautiful landscape, historic villages, stunning wines – it is an unmissable part of our Catalonian adventure.
