We devoted Friday to the acclaimed Planeta estate at their exquisite Ulmo property on the shore of Lake Arancio near the town of Sambuca.
This estate has been an veritable pioneer in experimenting with different grape varieties and varied terroirs. Their quest for top notch Pinot Noir continues, they have launched an exciting method traditionelle Carricante and are seeing exciting results for Riesling grown around Mount Etna.
As you might expect from a family member, Chiara gave us a deep insight into the progressive family mentality and then hosted a terrific tasting of six wines from different regions of Sicily.
With the weather being utterly delightful we sat outside and enjoyed some delicious antipasti with a dry Moscato Bianco and then lunch with the famed Menfi Chardonnay, Ulmo Merlot and a superb sweet Moscato from the Noto area in the south of the island.
A really super day that once again opened our eyes to the fabulous quality and diversity of Sicilian wines.
