We took a short drive up the coast to Cantine Fina – in between Trapani and Marsala. Here we were greeted by a trio of the Fina family, Bruno, Federica and Pietro.
What ensued was a riotous morning with 13 wines tasted, a lot of shouting amongst the Fina family and a desperate bid to keep on schedule. Just like last time there was an enormous pre light lunch but we seemed to manage!
Cantine Fina occupies a marvellous hill top position overlooking the sea and we had beautiful weather to enjoy the occasion.
The wines are superb – no wonder perhaps as the legendary consultant oenologist Giacomo Tachis advises the estate.
Bulging at the sides, we were back on the bus ready for our drive past the Segesta temple, a team of goats, and to the ‘garagista’ winery of Ceuso.
Having literally started production in a garage, Ceuso have quickly established a top class reputation for their top wine.
Family member Luisa Melia showed us round before we embarked on a tasting of their range – including a delicious Grillo and the 2011 and 2008 Ceuso (50% Nero d’Avola 30% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Merlot) which still have years to go.
Return to Marsala, our final dinner awaits…
