We congregated in the beautiful town of Avignon on Wednesday evening all ready to explore the delights of the region.

Following a very sociable glass of rosé by the pool of our hotel, we headed out to L’Essentiel restaurant in the heart of the town. It was a lovely warm evening and we sat in their delightful open air patio.
A wonderful dinner commenced with an entremet à la brousse (sprouts, but not as we know them), followed by a perfectly cooked filet de bar with a rich tomato sauce, finishing with a pineapple pavlova. All washed down with an excellent Marsanne/Roussanne/Viognier Côtes du Rhône blend and a fine 2016 Côtes du Rhône rouge.
A great start to our tour.
