Our first Slovenia tour of 2025 has started and it is always a pleasure to be back in this beautiful country – we were last here in 2018. With the Easyjet flight on time, the group assembled in the City Hotel at noon and we took a gentle amble into Ljubljana City centre.
Our destination was the acclaimed Landerik restaurant. A superb lunch ensued with four courses comprising a delicious beef tartar followed by perfectly cooked roasted cauliflower with a delicious cauliflower cream, seabass and pudding. Washed down with a cracking array of Slovenian Rebula, Chardonnay and Merlot.

From the restaurant, we took a 100 yard walk (in quite some heat) to the tasting room of the famous Movia estate. Movia are based in Brda, next to the Italian border but have established a very successful and atmospheric tasting room right in the heart of the city. Seventh generation Ela and her boyfriend Grega hosted a terrific tasting which showcased a top class selection of wines starting with a first on a TSWT tour – a manual disgorgement of a bottle of sparkling wine in a bucket of water! Using a Movia designed disgorging tool this was an effective way of getting rid of the yeast with no risk to the general public! more Rebula, Chardonnay, Orange Rebula, Pinot Noir and culminating in a 2003 Merlot/Cabernet in magnum.

A great start to the tour, leaving us with plenty of time to enjoy the lovely city.
