To Colonia del Sacramento

Monday was a gentler day as we headed out towards Colonia del Sacramento in order to discover another segment of the Uruguayan wine world.

The destination was Bodegas Viñedos y Olivares del Quinton. Family owned by the Chivietti family, this was well worth the two and half hour drive. It is a beautiful estate that has only been built in the last fifteen years and yet has a wonderful old world feel and mood.
We were hosted by Feccundo,  and Virginia Chivietti kept popping in to see how we were getting on.First stop was the vineyards followed by a wander around the olive groves and then it was a drive to the state of the art olive press where they produce stunning single varietal extra virgin olive oil. It was fascinating to see at first hand the olive oil making process.

In the winery itself, which was just across the road from the olive press, we tasted several olive oils and three of their wines accompanied by some stunning cheeses and meats.

We were now getting hungry and we moved back to the main house and sat outside in the most wonderful dining area. It is an idyllic spot for lunch.
Of course there was an abundance of food – Uruguayan hospitality is amazing.

We were treated to delicious salads, sausages and then the most amazing asado beef that was cooked to perfection.
All of this was washed down with their fabulous Malbecs.
Another great day.
