It is great to be back in Valladolid for the start of our Ribera, Rueda and Toro tour!
The weather forecast is warm and sunny for the whole week and we have a terrific tour ahead of us.
We convened in the hotel bar for a swift glass of Verdejo before heading out to an amazing restaurant on the outskirts of the city called Atypikal.
Jean Belondrade from the fabulous Belondrade bodega in Rueda met us there and we embarked on an amazing journey of wine and gastronomy. Jean is the son of Didier Belondrade who founded the winery, and was a very entertaining and engaging host. Their Apolonia Rosé was washed down with some very innovative tapas including a wine meringue topped with deliciously soft cream cheese. We then sat down to a multiple course dinner accompanied by the Verdejos of Belondrade.
The wines were stunning and the food pairings were extraordinary. It was a fabulous mix of sensational flavours that juxtaposed Spanish classics with oriental spices and much more. The wine flowed freely and the food just kept coming.
We finished off with an amazing Jeroboam of the Belondrade 2012 that was sublime.
A truly memorable start to the tour!
