As our flight was an evening departure we had the opportunity to visit my all time favourite family winery – the Marenco estate in Strevi. I have had the pleasuring of knowing the family since 2006 and the welcome we receive is quite extraordinary.
Gian took us round the winery and small museum before we headed out into the farmhouse in the vineyards. We were ecstatically greeted by Michela and we immediately tucked into some freshly baked focaccia, salami and hams and sampled their Rosato and Moscato d’Asti.
The setting is glorious – overlooking the Monferrato hills and further towards Liguria – we sat outside shaded by trees. It is a truly idyllic spot. Antipasti arrived, followed by ravioli and cheese and fresh fruit for dessert.
It was all heavenly and no-one wanted to leave.
