Our third Tuscany Wine Tour ends in San Gimignano

We managed to fit in one final visit and light lunch on our way to Pisa airport and we headed over to San Gimignano. Renowned for its many towers, the town is home to the Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG. Vernaccia is the white grape which is indigenous to Tuscany and you rarely find examples elsewhere.

We were visiting Cappella Sant’Andrea, a wonderful family owned organic estate with some of the most stunning views in the area. We had a brief introduction from Flavia, the owner, and then Tomasso took over with an overview of the wines. We tasted three excellent and contrasting Vernaccia wines, two Chiantis, a field blend Rosso di Toscana and, to everyone’s surprise, a tiny amount of their 2003 Vin Santo. Crudites with olive oil, a rich Tuscan bean soup, a selection of charcuterie and cheeses and saffron ice cream completed our day.

The sun was shining, the vista was amazing – a blissful end to our Tuscany tour!
