Our second tour to the Douro Valley has commenced! The weather forecast is perfect and the TAP flight arrived on schedule.
Having checked into our hotel in Vila Real, we had time to relax before taking a very pleasant walk over the Cais da Vila restaurant.
This is a superb restaurant built on the old railway station and head chef and owner Daniel has created a superb fine dining establishment.
A selection of savoury nibbles was followed by a delicious soup with leeks and shiitake mushroom, a prawn risotto and a delicate pork dish with garlicky potatoes and cabbage.
Some cracking local wines went perfectly and most of us were waving white flags at the amount of food. There is no danger of being underfed in Portugal!
A great start to the tour.
