Though we had checked out of the hotel, the tour was not yet over. As our flight was in the evening, we had time to pop into Château La Verrerie in the Côtes du Luberon.
A relatively new estate – the property and vineyards were bought in the mid 80’s and their first vintage was in 1989 – just a year after the Luberon was given its AOC.

The Descours family own the estate and added it their stable of the legendary Charles Heidsieck, Piper Heidsieck and Biondi Santi in Italy. They have invested heavily into the property and have created a wonderful experience.
Situated in the Luberon National park, there is a wonderful calm. Goats that they look after add much to the ambiance.

Elise – who I first met in 2023 – hosted our visit and took us around some of the vineyards and into the winery and cellar. Despite Rosé dominating production, they are looking to move away from this sector as the winemaker is not a huge fan of pink wine!
Syrah works extremely well for them and they have won many awards at Syrah competitions.

The tasting was excellent – introducing us to the Luberon AOC – the final appellation before crossing into Provence.
We rounded of the tour with a tomato quiche, feta salad and a magnums of 2013 Grand Deffand Syrah – their top wine. A fitting end to the tour.
