First Autumn Douro Valley Tour has started

Our Autumn season of tours to the Douro Valley have started, with the first day all going to plan.

Despite rain of almost biblical proportions in Porto, our flight was early and with a lot of people already arriving  a few days early, we set off for Vila Real on schedule.

Having checked in, we headed out for dinner. Vila Real is an important town in the Douro Valley and the dining scene is starting to emerge. While you can find a lot of traditional places, the one restaurant that really stands out is Cais da Villa. Using the old railway station as its modern cavernous base, chef Daniel is creating an innovative take on Portuguese cuisine.

Pink Port with tonic as an aperitif with a selection of canapes was followed by a wonderful selection of grilled vegetables with an accompanying calde verde style soup. A delicious prawn risotto was followed by pork with cauliflower and a lovely dessert– all beautifully presented and washed down with some Douro whites and reds.

A cracking first night of our tour.
