A glimpse of Piedmont

Barbaresco-vineyardsI am in Piemonte for a couple of days just putting the finishing touches to our tour in May.

A terrific tour is in store as we really get to grips with Barolo and Barbaresco as well as some of the lesser known areas and grape varieties.

Here is a view of the majestic Barbaresco vineyards.

I visited the wonderful Bruno Rocca estate for the first time today and was utterly impressed by the whole set up. Bruno Rocca has established himself as one of the leaders in this DOCG and the attention to detail is a joy to behold. I can’t reveal too much now so look out for the tour blogs in early May.

I also visited “the other side of the river” as Marco Porello put it. The Roero hills is perhaps a less fashionable area but one that deserves a lot of attention. The Roero Arneis has its own DOCG now which really marks out both the Arneis grape and the Roero terroir. The Porello estate is a small 13 hectare property –  family owned and thriving on the recognition that the region is getting.

Alba, where we are staying is a beautiful town – full of history, culture, truffles and wine. Roll on May for our Piemonte tour.
