The first day of our third Tuscany Wine Tour takes us to Chianti Rufina

Our third Tuscany tour of the year has commenced and the exciting new EES system at Pisa airport was kind to those on the BA flight, so we left ahead of schedule.

Our destination was the historic Fattoria Selvapiana in the Chianti Rufina region just to the west of Florence. Selvapiana is now run by sixth generation family member Federico Giuntini and it was Federico who hosted our visit. It was 2pm by the time we arrived so we settled straight into lunch. A selection of delicious crostinis were paired with a Pomino Bianco and a Pomino Rosso, a delicious wild boar tagliatelle pasta accompanied the entry level Chianti Rufina and single vineyard Vigneto Erchi, then slow cooked beef followed by cheese took us through three vintages (2022, 2020 & 2014) of Selvapiana’s top wine – Vigneto Bucerchiale.

Federico then took us to see the hallowed land of the Bucerchiale vineyard and the old and new cellars. All in all a super visit and lunch and a great start to the tour.

A fabulous start to the tour!  We checked into our hotel in Siena, to enjoy a pleasant evening at leisure.
