Our very first Alentejo tour has begun! The flight from Heathrow to Lisbon was on time and we headed straight to Wine Corner – the restaurant attached to JM Fonseca’s estate in the Setúbal peninsula. An excellent lunch ensued with spicy grilled prawns, tuna, perfectly cooked steak and a delicious egg roulade as dessert. The wines were delicious too. As we were in Setúbal, we kicked off with the JM Fonseca Lancers sparkling wine, followed by a very drinkable off dry Moscatel, a smooth Alentejo red and rounded it all off with a 20 Year Old Moscatel de Setúbal. A great first lunch.
From Setúbal it was 90 minutes to our hotel in the very pretty town of Évora – which will be our base for the duration of the tour.
