We had just enough time to fit in one last visit before our flight, so we headed to the nearest area of production – Pessac-Leognan – a mere 30 minutes from the hotel. The beautiful Chateau Bouscaut was our destination and we were hosted by the owners– Sophie and Laurent Cogombles-Lurton. Bouscaut is a classed growth for both red and white wines in the Graves region and we experienced a magnificent tasting that highlighted the qualities of both wines.
Tasting through the 2015, 2005 and 1995 reds – this was a fabulous opportunity to experience top class Pessac-Leognan through three great vintages and the wines great elegance, character and style.
But there was more to come. We continued the wonderful experience by pairing four cheeses: Comte, Gorgonzola, Brebis and an aged Mimolette with two vintages of their white. I have championed white wine with cheese for many years and it was a fascinating tasting opportunity.
Four days, four different areas, a predominance of classed growth wines – all combined to show Bordeaux at its best.
