Provence Wine Tour Outline Itinerary
Our Meeting Point is at Marseille Airport (see Flight Transfers below) from where we will take a coach to our hotel in Aix en Provence. Our first night dinner together will set the scene with some delicious local cuisine and a range of regional wines.
We take rosé to a new exalted level as we visit the Lichine estate, home of the delicious Whispering Angel, and discover at first hand the exceptionally high quality levels that rosé can attain. In contrast, we also visit a relative newcomer – Domaine Mirabeau – in the picturesque village of Cotignac. Owner Stephen Cronk used to live in Teddington and worked in IT before setting off to live the dream in Provence.
Dinner at leisure.
Friday takes us west of Aix-en-Provence and to the historic Château Beaulieu. With vines planted here since Roman times and situated in the middle of a large extinct volcano crater, we have a private visit to the villa and taste their superb, mineral rich wines. We will also visit Domaine Richeaume, with the backdrop of the Saint Victoire mountains as painted by Cézanne, where Henning and Julia Hoesch have been making organic wine since 1972.
Dinner at leisure.
Bandol is our destination for our final full day of visits and tastings. Renowned for serious Mourvèdre based red wines, we head to Domaine l’Estagnol where owner Sandrine Feraud will commence our discovery of high quality, prestigious wines. A second estate will also feature to add contrast.
Dinner together at a top local restaurant.
The tour ends after breakfast. There will be a free morning before we depart at 2pm. We will provide a transfer to Marseille airport to coincide with the BA flight as detailed below.

More about what to expect from my Provence Wine Tour
This is our very first tour to Provence and it has been a long awaited destination. We will cover as wide a cross spectrum of wine styles as possible. Despite rosé being the most significant production style, the range of tastings will be equally balanced across high quality red and whites as well.
Despite covering quite a large area, Provence is dwarfed by the huge production volumes of the Languedoc to the west and southern Rhone to the north. Because of the popularity of Provence for so many other reasons, as well its association with rosé, the region is sometimes overlooked as a high quality wine region. My Provence wine tour will reveal the extraordinary diversity with serious reds and some stunning whites.
Bandol and Les Baux de Provence are two areas that have established themselves for high quality reds. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah feature predominantly but we will also taste Cinsault and Mourvèdre. It is, of course, impossible to ignore rosé and I have no intention of doing so. This style has become phenomenally popular and Provence has been at the epicentre of a high quality revival. Wines such as Whispering Angel have proved that serious wines can be made with serious price tags alongside the legendary Domaine Ott.
The cuisine and countryside will be wondrous. Many people will have visited Provence so the diverse countryside, garrigue vegetation, and mix of seascape and rugged inland need little introduction. Provençal cuisine is renowned for its rich Mediterranean flavours, olive oils and a heady mix of seafood and local meats. We will have some wonderful food and wine matching experiences through our tasting lunches and dinners.
More about Tim Syrad Wine Tours
Since 1997 I have escorted over 90 groups of people on tours to wine regions in Europe and the New World. My clients keep coming back year after year because in addition to tastings and visits we really do meet the people who make the wine and tend the vines.
I personally escort all my tours, and I ensure as much as possible of the money my clients pay is spent on great food and wine, and good hotels.
