Outline Itinerary

Day 1
Our tour commences at our Meeting Point at Milan Malpensa(MXP) Airport (see Flight Transfers below).  I will meet the midday flight arriving from Heathrow and our coach will take us to Alba, where we will settle in to our hotel.  In the evening I will host a first night dinner at a local restaurant, at which we will commence our exploration of the wine and cuisine of this beautiful place.

Day 2
The Roero hills will be our destination for day 2 where we discover the Arneis grape. There has been a high quality revival of this historic grape which was almost extinct 30 years ago. We taste at an Arneis specialist as well as exploring Barbera and Nebbiolo from Asti. A traditional lunch will be taken in the village of Guarene.

Day 3
Barolo and Barbaresco will be our focus for day 3 as we explore the glory of the Nebbiolo grape. These two areas are amongst the famous in all of Piedmont and renowned all over the world. The differences in terroir will be illustrated by contrasting visits to two high quality wineries and the day will include a wine tasting lunch to further examine the qualities of these wines.

Barolo

Day 4
The stunning scenery of the Monferrato region will have our attention today. This is where we find Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and even some Pinot Noir. We visit Forteto della Luja in Loazzolo – a beautiful historic estate, as well as travelling to Gavi where we get to know the Cortese grape. Dinner will be together in Alba.

Marenco Estate 2018

Day 5
With an early evening flight we have time to visit one of my favourite wine estates – Marenco in Strevi. We will have a light lunch out in the vineyards before heading back to Milan for our flight.

Note: the Itinerary may be changed at Tim Syrad Wine Tours discretion so as to facilitate the smooth running of the tour and to accommodate great opportunities for visits or tastings that may become available.

More about my Piedmont Wine Tour

Piedmont is our most frequently visited destination and it is not hard to understand why. We base ourselves in Alba, a beautiful town that is home to the amazing truffle industry as well as Ferrero Rocher! Gastronomy is very important and the town is awash with a wide variety of restaurants.

There is amazing scenery as we travel in the Roero and Monferrato hills and witness the patchwork terroir of the villages that make up the area they call the Langhe.

The wines of Piedmont are richly diverse and cover a broad spectrum of styles. These range from the famous fizz from Asti which has been transformed in quality in recent years; the delicious whites from Gavi and Roero where the Cortese and Arneis respectively make their mark; reds from Barbera, Dolcetto and of course, Nebbiolo. Barolo and Barbaresco are two of the best known reds in Italy and a major part of the tour is spent understanding the differences between the two styles.

It is also a region famed for its sweet wines; both sparkling and still Moscato, red Brachetto and of course Asti.   Piedmont possesses a myriad of indigenous grape varieties, and we will explore many of them, and the gastronomy that has evolved to complement them.

More about Tim Syrad Wine Tours

Since 1997 I have escorted over 110 groups of people on wine tours, visiting more than 30 wine regions in Europe and the New World. My clients keep coming back year after year because in addition to tastings and visits we really do meet the people who make the wine and tend the vines.

I pride myself in offering tours that are infomative, imaginative and enjoyable.  I keep group sizes manageable so that we spend our time appreciating our visits, not getting on and off the bus or queuing for the loos!  I personally escort all of my tours, and I ensure as much as possible of the money my clients pay is spent on great food and wine, and good hotels.  I believe you can combine appreciating fabulous wine with relaxation and laughter, which is why so many of my clients come on tour with me every year.  More than 70 people have come on at least 10 of my tours.

There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere on every tour from the start, and I am proud that so many friendships have been made between the people who come on tour with me.

For more information about me, my next tours, and previous tours I have run, and to find out what my clients say (some of whom have been coming on tour with me since 2001) please explore the website.
